Office of the Administrator
The Federal Railroad Administration is led by an Administrator, who is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, and a Deputy Administrator also appointed by the President.
The Administrator is the principal advisor to the Secretary and is the principal representative of the US Department of Transportation on railroad affairs and other fixed guideway transportation matters.
The Deputy Administrator assists the Administrator in carrying out his/her responsibilities.
The Executive Director is a Senior Executive Service position and is responsible for the overall administration and operation of the full range of day-to-day operations of FRA staff.
The Administrator and Deputy Administrator lead a talented staff in developing:
- freight and passenger rail policy,
- safety regulations and initiatives,
- legislation,
- research and development activities, and
- new management initiatives that provide a positive work environment, motivated employees and a higher productivity.
