On March 7, 2023, at approximately 1:08 a.m. EST, a Norfolk Southern Railway Company (NS) conductor was fatally injured when Train C75B106 collided with a dump truck at a private road crossing in Cleveland, Ohio. The accident occurred on NS’s Cleveland Branch Line near a steel mill owned by Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. The conductor, who was riding the lead end of a 12-car shove movement, failed to comply with NS Operating Rule 120, which required him to flag the crossing from the ground. Limited sight distance also contributed, as the dump truck driver did not see the approaching train before crossing the tracks.
