Grade crossing accidents represent a significant proportion of railroad-related fatalities and injuries. FRA is committed to improving public safety by decreasing the number of grade crossing accidents. In this project, the FRA grade crossing incident and crossing inventory databases were analyzed to identify the factors that contribute to highway-rail grade crossing accidents. Descriptive statistics, trend and frequency analyses, and correlational analysis of variables were calculated. Time series decomposition, driver demographic analysis, and analysis of temporal and environmental effects were also performed as part of this research.
