News Digest: FRA Provides $1.8 Million TIGER 2013 Grant for Oklahoma Track Rehabilitation Project.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has awarded a $1.8 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant to rehabilitate 12 miles of track on the state-owned rail line located between Erick and Sayre, Okla., that will enable faster speeds and increases in freight service along the line. The project includes the installation of new ties, rehabilitation of grade crossings, rehabilitation of two bridges and construction of an industrial siding near Erick. The project will also prepare the track for reclassification from Excepted Track, that is infrequently used, to FRA Class 1 Track, which can be used for low speed mainline service.
