The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), in collaboration with the Association of American Railroads (AAR), sponsored Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI) to conduct a revenue service test of an automated machine vision (MV) inspection system for evaluating truck components on railcars. The system, from KLD Labs, Inc. of Hauppauge, NY, was installed at the Hague site on CSX railroad property. This is the culmination of a two-phase test that started in Pueblo, CO, at the Transportation Technology Center (TTC) and finished with a revenue service evaluation of the equipment. The test included an evaluation and development of algorithms to monitor the condition of truck components of railroad cars. This report details the performance of the system during the 24-month test, i.e., December 2016 to December 2018.
