Bi-Level Rollover Rig Design and Construction Estimate Final Report
- Federal Railroad Administration
In 2006, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) funded the development of the Passenger Rail Vehicle Emergency Evacuation Simulator, known as the “rollover rig.” This device was constructed to provide the railroad passenger community with the training tools to respond effectively during a passenger train accident/derailment. It is a platform for different types of emergency response training and safety equipment that is evaluated by equipment designers. Four concepts of comparative evaluation were developed based on the need for the industry. This report describes the various elements of those concepts and offers guidance for the fabrication and drawings of its assembly, cost estimates, and the anticipated construction schedule.
